Comment"The framework for a hostage and ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas is “now in place” according to a senior administration official. That acknowledgement comes on the heels of President Joe Biden’s call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday.
The call came as Israel and Hamas appear to be on the brink of a framework agreement for a deal, an Israeli source familiar with the negotiations has told CNN. Hamas recently provided a response to the framework to Qatari and Egyptian mediators, a move Israeli officials believe will enable the two parties to enter detailed negotiations to reach an agreement. A deal, however, is still not finalized nor is it assured.
Biden laid out the three-phase proposal in a May speech. The first phase would last six weeks and include the “withdrawal of Israeli forces from all populated areas of Gaza” and “release of a number of hostages, including women, the elderly, the wounded in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.” Phase 2 would allow for the “exchange for the release of all remaining living hostages, including male soldiers.” In Phase 3, the president said, a “major reconstruction plan for Gaza would commence and any final remains of hostages who’ve been killed will be returned to their families.”
The official noted that the two leaders during their call Thursday seemed to reach a “breakthrough” on the transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2. The deal as it stands now is “very consistent” with what the president had laid out in his May speech"

He argues that 'a combination of political and military pressure — above all, military pressure' will bring all 120 hostages in Gaza back.
He continues to pledge that Israel will achieve all its war aims: 'To anyone who doubts the achievement of these goals, I repeat: there is no substitute for victory. Our warriors did not fall in vain. We will not end the war until we achieve all our goals.'"

'We’ve been through dark times in these months of anguish, war. During that time, I can say that Israel has had no better friend than Sen. John Fetterman,' Netanyahu said during a meeting with the senator.
Fetterman has been one of the most vocal supporters of Israel among Democrats, a policy position which has isolated him from many of his progressive supporters.
'Thank you for your courageous statements that show moral clarity and moral courage,' Netanyahu added. 'You just say it the way it is, and we appreciate this friendship at all times, but especially in these times.'
Fetterman, wearing his trademark hoodie, reaffirmed his support for the country.
'We stand with Israel at this time. I am so sorry for what has been done to this nation,' he told the prime minister. 'It is an honor to be here today.'
The senator was also wearing a special bracelet during his state visit, given to him by families of victims killed during the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on the Nova music festival at the onset of the Israel-Hamas war.
He told Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Tuesday that he would not take the bracelet off until all the hostages held by Hamas were returned."
